“I’ve been lucky. I’ve been given a second chance, and I savor every moment.”
Ginny has worked for Bristol-Myers Squibb for 22 years in the HR and law departments. Although she was always proud of the company’s mission to help patients prevail over serious diseases, that mission has recently taken on new meaning for her. “When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, I was put on the other side of the fence. Now I’m the patient, and now I’m the face of the person we work so hard for in our mission to extend and enhance human life,” she says.
“Sitting in the infusion chair receiving my chemotherapy, I realized that the people who developed the drug that was keeping me alive are the people I see every day – they’re my colleagues and my friends. And I would sit there and thank God for their intelligence and for their discoveries.”
Today, Ginny says she never misses an opportunity to spend time with friends and family. “I’ve been lucky. I’ve been given a second chance, and I savor every moment.”
