“Being both a researcher and a patient, I have a great appreciation of the importance of the next generation of drugs.”
Martha is a Bristol-Myers Squibb research scientist. In 2003, she was diagnosed with cancer. She was given little hope that she would survive. But when she learned that her chemotherapy included a drug she had actually helped to develop, she grew confident in her treatment … and in herself.
“Being both a researcher and a patient,” Martha says, “I have a great appreciation of the importance of what we do. As a researcher, I know how difficult it is to bring a drug to market. As a patient, I understand what it’s like to anxiously wait for an effective treatment.”
“I’m very excited to come in every day and work on research that will hopefully one day bring us new drugs to help others in the fight against cancer.”
