In honor of Heart Month, a spotlight on one initiative to expand heart screenings underscores how Corporate Giving lives its mission to impact lives globally.

A commitment to purpose-driven, patient‑centered giving

At Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS), the Corporate Giving program reflects the company’s long‑standing commitment to conscientious corporate citizenship. The program’s mission is clear: to be a force for good by strengthening health systems, advancing scientific knowledge and improving the lives of patients and their families.

Part of BMS’ Global Purpose & Patient Experience Organization, the Corporate Giving program provides support to independent organizations for initiatives that make a positive and meaningful impact for patients, strengthen healthcare delivery, advance scientific knowledge and uplift local communities, among other criteria. Each request is reviewed through a structured process that aligns with BMS policies and its mission, vision and values.

“Corporate Giving is rooted in the belief that communities are best positioned to drive meaningful and lasting change,” said Jasmine Greenamyer, VP, Global Purpose & Patient Experience. “During Heart Month, it’s especially important to focus on early detection, education and community‑based efforts that help improve health and save lives.”

How Corporate Giving works — and its impact in 2025

Organizations can apply by submitting a Corporate Giving Request through a secure portal, then track their submissions as they move through the review process. All requests must be independent, and BMS does not have influence or control over initiatives that receive grants.

In 2025, the Corporate Giving program provided funding to organizations in 65 different countries, continuing to expand its global reach across key areas such as health equity and disease education. In all, over 3,600 organizations around the world received support last year, for initiatives ranging from biomarker testing for lung cancer in India, to visits from performance artists in pediatric hospitals in Finland, to improving food security in New Jersey, the home of BMS headquarters.

Together, these contributions represent the breadth and depth of BMS’ commitment to creating sustainable, patient‑centered impact across the globe.

A life-changing grant in action: The Peyton Walker Foundation

In honor of Heart Month, just one of the recent inspiring examples of community impact through BMS Corporate Giving comes from the Peyton Walker Foundation (PWF), a U.S. leader in heart screenings, CPR/AED training and awareness of the risks of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and the importance of Electrocardiogram (EKG) testing. PWF was started in memory of Peyton Walker — who lived with the genetic heart condition hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or HCM — by her mother, Julie.

In 2025, BMS awarded an independent grant to help PWF expand its heart‑screening initiatives to adults and amplify life-saving education in schools and communities, including through CPR and AED trainings. Previously, the organization had focused its efforts primarily on screenings for young students and athletes.

During its first BMS‑supported heart screening event for adults, PWF shared that several individuals received significant cardiac findings. Identifying these previously undiagnosed heart issues had a profound impact on them, and with these potentially life-saving diagnoses, PWF and medical providers were able to make recommendations for follow-up care plans.

“We’ve witnessed the tremendous impact that our youth heart screening program has had over the past 11 years,” said Julie Walker, who also lives with HCM. “At each one of these screenings, our team has identified potentially significant heart issues that had previously gone undetected or undiagnosed. We knew that if kids had undiagnosed heart issues, surely the same would be true for adults. Having the opportunity to provide heart screenings to adults for the first time was a huge win for our mission and enabled us to grow our impact in our communities.”

This grant and the results of PWF’s work demonstrates how Corporate Giving can be used to strengthen communities, protect and empower families — and ultimately save lives.
