Associate Director, Clinical Nurse Consultant

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Associate Director is the leader of a US field-based team of nurses who function as an extension of the US Commercial organization. 

The CNC-Associate is responsible for leading and managing the efforts of the CNCs within their designated Region.  Working with the National Director and VP of Hematology, the CNC Associate Director provides operational support for executing the CNC strategy and delivering on the annual objectives and initiatives. The CNC-Associate Director develops and oversees key CNC programs regionally and nationally. The strategic customer segments of focus include RN, APP, Patient & Caregiver.

The incumbent must reside in one of the states advertised.

Business Savvy and Organizational Agility

  • Engage and align with key organizational stakeholders on role of the Clinical Nurse Consultant in achieving Hematology organizational priorities
  • Engage and align with Hematology Marketing Franchise team on objectives, priorities, and CNC resource needs
  • Represent CNC organization on cross functional U.S. launch teams
  • Collaborate with Market Access teams to develop innovative solutions to meet customer needs
  • Liaise with Patient Advocacy team to develop innovative solutions to meet patient needs
  • Appropriately partner with Marketing and Regional Sales Directors, as well as Market Access Leadership to define Clinical Nurse Consultant role in supporting account specific objectives
  • Define strategy to meet CNC educational resource objectives
  • Identify and remove operational barriers to team effectiveness
  • Appropriately partner with the commercial field team and commercial training to provide disease and product education in the region and corresponding districts
  • Engage key customers to define opportunities for collaboration and impact
  • Connect with key customers and External Experts to continuously seek customer feedback on opportunities to positively impact patient health
  • Plan and manage the CNC booth presence at key Nursing Conferences
  • Collaborate with SP & DA (Operations) partners to evaluate existing analytics capabilities, develop additional tools to identify trends and secure resources that meet account educational needs
  • Provide advanced analytical regional analysis at a regional level
  • Assume responsibility for coordination and management of scope, content and timelines for CNC initiated projects with third party vendors and marketing partners

Communication Skills

  • Engage the team on CNC purpose and mission
  • Actively support the regional team and their efforts by being their advocate and spokesperson; promote collaboration within the team, across work groups and with customers
  • Develop and maintain productive and appropriate relationships with individuals in other regional/field-based positions from the commercial and medical affairs organizations
  • Promote open dialogue with cross functional partners by providing key insights and consistency

Influential Leadership Across All Levels of the Organization

  • Provide leadership to the CNC team and enable successful delivery of program objectives
  • Partner with legal/compliance to provide functional expertise that shapes CNC policies and procedures
  • Lead in the development and execution of Account Education plans that align with the CNC priorities/objectives and Regional opportunities for Nursing & APP customer segments
  • Applies a globally relevant customer centric mindset when interpreting trends and evaluating future opportunities; able to apply relevant information to develop plans that positively impact customers
  • Provides and maintains developmental plans for all team members

Managerial Courage and Accountability

  • Establish relevant success metrics and ensure team clarity and accountability in meeting and/or exceeding stated objectives/metrics
  • Oversee recruiting, staffing, hiring, training and developmental opportunities for assigned CNC Region
  • Ensure CNC team receives clear guidance and is compliant with all appropriate regulations and company SOPs and has right level of direction and training to ensure compliance, inclusive of first line monitoring
  • Provide ongoing coaching and guidance to respective CNCs, enabling high team engagement and performance

Ongoing Professional Development

  • Create a positive and engaging work environment that rewards accomplishments and encourages the advancement and retention of productive employees.
  • Guide/assist CNCs in developing and executing outreach and education strategies for their individual geographies 
  • Develop and continuously evaluate/update CNC team and CNC manager competencies
  • Proactively plan for core competency development for self and team
  • Create objectives, content, and mobilize resources to execute POA and CNC Annual Meeting workshops
  • Develop objectives, agenda and content for Regional Meetings
  • Foster a continuous learning environment and ensure individuals are given opportunity to develop outside of their core responsibilities/competencies.  Provide follow-up feedback and communication regarding development opportunities

Experience Required:

  • 10 years of related nursing experience with an oncology background (hematology preferred)
  • 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience (field based preferred)
  • Prior nurse management or team leadership (pharmaceutical industry preferred)
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal; must be adaptable and able to work well within a matrixed structure and relate effectively with people at all levels of the organization
  • Able to inspire a team to excel by fostering a climate of energy, excitement and personal accountability
  • Demonstrated leadership in ambiguous situations
  • Established customer engagement skills
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict in a productive and respectful manner
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional leadership across Sales, Market Access, Marketing and broader organization
  • Experience with developing roles/responsibilities for Nurse/Clinical Educator team
  • High level of integrity and dependability
  • Current working knowledge of US legal, regulatory, and compliance regulations and guidelines
  • Excellent computer skills i.e. Microsoft office, Excel, Power point

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Master’s degree preferred)

Travel required.  Must be able to work nights and weekends. Ability to travel overnight up to 50% of the time

For position offered in California, the starting compensation for Regional Associate Director, Clinical Nurse Consultants job is a range from [$160,000-$190,000).  plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation is decided based on demonstrated experience.
