Our Black Organization for Leadership and Development (BOLD) leads our celebration of African American sacrifices, contributions, accomplishments and milestones in our nation’s history. The theme for this year’s celebration, Still We Rise, highlights the efforts and encompasses the commitment to empower and embolden our communities despite past and ongoing challenges.
 
BOLD is one of eight People and Business Resource Groups that help foster a culture of inclusion, strong employee engagement, and higher levels of productivity. BOLD members passionately engage and empower our Black talent to bring innovative impactful insights to the benefit of our colleagues, the Company, and most importantly our patients.

Jerry Jean-Louis, Manager, Microbiology Laboratory, Syracuse

What I do - I support our commercial manufacturing by managing the quality control microbiological control laboratory and coordinating routine testing of our products. I also serve as a BOLD Chapter co-lead where I engage our employees to drive necessary conversations and facilitate events that advance the mission of our BOLD organization.

Why BMS is a great place to work - The thing that makes BMS a great place to work is the unique emphasis on values that drive our identity as a company. Because of these values, we are able to effectively shape the culture of our workforce. I’m proud of working for BMS because we tie everything we do back to the patients which highlights our “Why” factor. Ariel Hodge, Manager, Emerging Leaders Rotational Program

What I do - I am part of our manufacturing Emerging Leaders Rotational Program and currently I’m in my third rotation as a manufacturing manager. In addition to my day job, diversity and inclusion are a passion of mine and I am an active member of BOLD as a project manager for professional development, a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) mentor, and supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) recruitment initiatives.

Why BMS is a great place to work - BMS is a wonderful place to work because we truly put the patient first as we address tough diseases, health issues, and disparities. I’m proud to be a part of a company that stands by and represents their values; Integrity, Urgency, Accountability, Innovation, Passion, and Inclusion. BMS also allows people to grow and expand their skills no matter what their role. For example, my work with BOLD is helping me develop new skills that will help with my career, professionally and personally. Trella Mitchell, Associate Scientific Director

What I do - I design the primary packaging for solid oral doses of several of our medicines. When I first joined BMS, I was the first new hire chosen to participate in the Technical Operations Rotation Program and completed four six-month rotations: in supply chain, quality, manufacturing and packaging. I am also the co-lead for BOLD talent acquisition. In this role, I work with human resources to recruit and retain a pipeline of black leaders for all professional levels at BMS.

What I do - I am a Clinical Trial Physician in Early Clinical Development, Hematology, Oncology and Cell Therapy. My involvement with BOLD began in earnest in 2020 when I was nominated to be a Mentor in the Scientist Mentoring & Diversity Program (SMDP) of The International Center for Professional Development Through this program, I have been able to help a postgraduate scholar from a minority background in his career journey in the biotech industry. A wonderful and fulfilling opportunity this has been.

Monica Jackson, Associate Manager, Region Operations

What I do - I am an associate manager, region operations, leading and collaborating on the development and execution of the regional business plan for one of our products. As an engaged member of BOLD, I am co-lead for Field Engagement on the Leadership Team. Additionally, I co-authored the Unconscious Bias training deck for One Immunology.

What I do - I am an associate director of operations and program management for our Business Insights and Analytics Organization where I work with a team to create strategies to increase operational efficiency, enhance ways of working and drive performance. I led communications for BOLD for three years and continue to participate in BOLD, serving as a mentor or advisor as needed. My leadership role, the BOLD network and development opportunities were instrumental in me obtaining a Board seat with Women of Color in Pharma.

Why BMS is a great place to work - I have had a 16 year career here at BMS and am proud to work for a company that has consistently been in support of my development. The relationships that I have developed have been instrumental to my success. Additionally, I am proud to work for a company taking a very public leadership stance on inclusion in both our workforce and in clinical trials.
