OLA recognizes and celebrates Latino achievements
Our Organization for Latin Achievement (OLA) recognizes and celebrates the many contributions, diverse cultures and extensive histories of the Latino community. OLA is one of our eight People and Business Resource Groups that help foster a culture of inclusion, strong employee engagement and higher levels of productivity.
Every day OLA members contribute diverse perspectives and innovation that are critical to our mission of helping patients prevail over serious diseases. Below are the stories of how some of those members contribute and thrive in a diverse and inclusive environment that values and empowers everyone.

What I do - I work in the discovery organization of BMS, and with other discovery scientists, to hunt for the next potential medicine for patients with cardiovascular diseases. In addition, I’m a co-lead for the Lawrenceville Organization of Latino Achievement chapter.
Why BMS is a great place to work - I was attracted to work for BMS based on the strength of the science and innovation within the discovery organization. Once I joined the company, I found that the mission of the company really resonated with one of my values which is service, since patients are at the center of what we do. Through OLA, I found a platform where I can develop my leadership skills and manifest one of my passions, which is to help inspire the next generation of Latino youth to pursue science or a STEM related degree. I really enjoy participating and leading initiatives in programs such as the “Role Model Program” in partnership with HISPA (Hispanics Inspiring Students’ Performance and Achievement), a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Latino youth to dream big and pursue advanced degrees.

What I do - I work on a team that designs and develops devices and digital solutions to help deliver our medicines and help patients better manage their conditions. I’m also active in OLA, helping our members develop their skills in order to progress in their careers.
Why BMS is a great place to work - BMS provides the opportunity to apply my skills, but also the challenges I need to progress my career. Just as important, we have a diverse, inclusive and friendly work environment where we can be fully accepted for who we are. It is also great that we have the opportunity to work in different areas and develop new skills that aren’t necessarily part of our job descriptions. For example, my work with OLA is helping me develop new skills that will help with my career, while I also help colleagues progress in their careers.

What I do - I work helping expand our cell therapy manufacturing process to new facilities so we can provide the therapy to more patients in more geographic regions. I am also one of the Seattle co-leads for the OLA Washington chapter, which we officially kicked off in September 2020!
Why BMS is a great place to work - BMS is constantly evolving to do what is best for its patients and employees. It is motivating to know patients are rooted at the center of all decisions and to see the impact we have on patients’ lives. We are actively encouraged to bring our true authentic selves to work with the understanding that this enables us to do our best work so we can bring the best medicines to our patients. BMS is also making a deliberate effort to make these medicines accessible to communities from all different walks of life while also working to increase diversity at our sites and actively supporting a culture that fosters inclusion and equity.

What I do - I help our Puerto Rico commercial organization make sure they are in full compliance with global financial policies and processes. I am an active OLA member in our site chapter in Puerto Rico, which I helped launch.
Why BMS is a great place to work - We truly put the patients at the center of everything we do and work with passion and excellence to improve the lives of patients. Personally, I’m passionate about being an inclusive leader and BMS recognizes the importance of a diverse and inclusive culture in serving our patients and achieving business results. The company also allows people to grow and expand their skills. I’m completing a six-month development assignment with our Patient Access and Support Services group that has helped me expand my skills and expand my career opportunities. BMS is also committed to helping our communities. In Puerto Rico, we have established partnerships with local universities and cancer research centers and also provided much-needed support after natural disasters.

What I do - I am an institutional sales representative for our cardiovascular medicines. I also lead the OLA Field chapter.
Why BMS is a great place to work - Our focus is on our patients and developing the medicines to help them with serious diseases. As a sales representative, I feel it’s an honor to be a final step in the journey of our medicine to healthcare providers and their patients. It’s a journey that represents the efforts our scientists and thousands of other colleagues involved in the development, production and management of our medicines. That is great in itself. But it’s also a great place in general. BMS provides opportunities to grow professionally and encourages everyone to learn and expand their skills and experience. We also have a truly diverse and inclusive culture and the company values our voice and input in decisions.

What I do - I lead global operations teams to develop multi-year strategies for our medicines. I had the privilege to co-lead the OLA launch at Celgene when we were acquired by BMS.

I am passionate about diversity, inclusion and people development and BMS truly embraces our diverse workforce and an inclusive culture. BMS is also committed to helping our communities around the world, especially during unprecedented times of need such as during natural disasters and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What I do - I support our Regional Clinical Operations team in Brazil, helping them make sure they comply with all clinical procedures, rules and regulations. For the past year, I have also worked as the OLA communication lead getting news and information out to our members.

Our culture not only accepts people with different backgrounds but actually actively seeks a diverse workforce. Our culture allows me to feel a sense of belonging, especially after joining OLA. What I do - I manage projects that help deliver medicines throughout the world by supporting our global supply chain team. I’m also active in OLA where I work with Latino students to encourage and inspire them to pursue their studies and their dreams.

What I do - I help the people in our Research and Development organization with human resources support. I’m also a member of OLA and Black Organization for Leadership Development (BOLD), another of our People and Business Resource Groups (PBRGs).
Why BMS is a great place to work - We are committed to helping patients and I love the challenge of finding new ways to improve professionally to help my colleagues and the patients we work for. I started with BMS in Brazil, my home country, and have had the opportunity to achieve my dream of working abroad in the U.S. Because the company has such a strong diverse and inclusive culture, I’ve felt fully supported by colleagues and through OLA and BOLD, which provide support networks that help me develop my career in a new country.
