Performance Data Collection

Our goal is to help people live healthy and safe lives. As part of our sustainability efforts, we are committed to transparency regarding the environmental data we collect and verify from our manufacturing, R&D and distribution facilities worldwide. Following is a break down of our corporate-wide process for environmental and safety data collection.

Verification
Our Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) performance is reviewed and verified by a third party who reviews documents, collects data, conducts site visits and interviews key personnel to provide an independent opinion regarding our compliance program and EHS performance.

Normalizing Data
Although our Environmental Performance Goals are absolute, our Key Performance Indicator Table is normalized to worldwide sales (USD). We acknowledge the shortcomings of this approach but it represents the best measure currently available.

Acquisitions and Divestitures

We collect data on existing facilities as well as newly opened facilities after a full calendar year of operation. For new acquisitions, it’s two full calendar years. If a facility is divested or closed, data from the facility are included through the last full calendar year it was part of Bristol Myers Squibb.

U.S. SARA 313 Releases

In compliance with Section 313 of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), we report annually on releases of toxic chemicals to the air, water and land, as well as air emissions and wastewater discharges for our U.S. facilities.

Bristol Myers Squibb facilities currently in the U.S. government's TRI database include:

  • Humacao, Puerto Rico
  • Lawrenceville, New Jersey
  • Manati, Puerto Rico
  • New Brunswick, New Jersey
  • Syracuse, New York
