Brain health

The Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation focuses on approaches to brain health that strengthen health systems, support earlier connections to services, and improve outcomes for individuals and communities facing persistent barriers to mental health care.

Across the United States, people living with serious mental illness are too often disconnected from timely, appropriate care. These gaps can result in delayed treatment, preventable crises, and increased interaction with systems that are not designed to meet behavioral health needs.

We are supporting efforts that prioritize system-level solutions that bring together healthcare, community, and public sector partners to improve how and where people receive support.

Through its brain health work, the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation is committed to advancing sustainable, scalable, collaborative approaches that improve access to care and support better outcomes for people living with serious mental illness.

Signature effort: Activate Brain Health Research, Access and Innovations Now (Activate BRAIN)

Activate BRAIN centers on four interconnected areas:

  • Mental health diversion programs: Connect people living with serious mental illness with appropriate community-based treatment and support services outside of the criminal justice system
  • Workforce development: Recruit, train and deploy mental health professionals to  health professional shortage areas to increase access to care
  • Innovative care models: Advance data-driven, scalable care models that address whole person care  and early intervention in medically underserved and/or rural communities.
  • Digital community: Establish a multi-stakeholder digital ecosystem that empowers patients and caregivers through community support and enables knowledge exchange.
