Mary Beth Harler leads immunology and fibrosis development as part of Bristol Myers Squibb’s Global Drug Development organization. In this role, she oversees late-stage development of assets with the potential to become approved treatment options for patients with diseases such as psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), among others. Mary Beth also oversees approved medicines that sit within the fibrosis and immunology portfolio, such as Orencia and Zeposia.
“At Bristol Myers Squibb, we have incredible scientific and development expertise which has allowed us to curate a strong pipeline,” she said. “I am excited to play a part on this team that helps to strengthen our portfolio, with the goal of ultimately providing novel treatment options for patients with difficult-to-treat diseases.”
Mary Beth has been at Bristol Myers Squibb for more than 10 years, joining in 2010 to lead the company’s transplant efforts within global clinical research. Prior to joining Bristol Myers Squibb, she spent time at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals (now part of Pfizer) where she worked in both medical affairs and clinical research.
Mary Beth completed her undergraduate degree at Wheeling University in West Virginia before attending Marshall University for medical school. She then went on to complete training as a general surgeon at Brown University’s Rhode Island Hospital, where she was also a research fellow with a focus on the role of immune cells on wound healing.

Mary Beth comes to work every day continuously motivated by her colleagues and feels it’s the extraordinary talent that drives the company forward.
“The scientific prowess that BMS is known for is what originally captivated me and led me to pursue a career here,” she said. “However, as I reflect on my time at BMS, I’m constantly reminded of why I choose to stay here. The people that I work with show me each and every day how incredibly talented and dedicated they are. We have some of the best people in the industry working with such passion and vigor. It will never fail to inspire me.”
When Mary Beth isn’t connecting with those around her at work, she enjoys spending her free time with her family, especially enjoying quality time with them at the beach.
